Installation Instructions
(Additional materials needed: a couple of handfuls of gravel or small rocks)

Hopefully, you've already got a water garden or pond just wating for the this addition. If not, the easiest thing to do is to dig a hole and install one of the pre-formed plastic ponds that are available; but with a little ingenuity just about anything that holds water will do...

1) Select a spot close to the edge of your reservoir. Ideally, both the end of the pivoting piece and the spout will be over the water.

2) Measure the distance between the centers of the bottoms of the two uprights. Using this measurement, dig two holes large enough to accomodate the two pieces of black ABS pipe included. Dig to a depth that leaves an inch or two of the pipe above ground and pack soil and rocks around them so they are secure.

3) Put one or two inches of gravel in the bottom of the two pipes pieces. Install the fountain and pack gravel into the pipes around the legs of the fountain. This protects the bamboo from contact with the soil and possible rot. NOTE: If you are installing a type "B" fountain, dig another hole an appropriate distance away for the upright/spout piece and do the same thing. This is what the third piece of ABS that you got is for. Make sure the end of the spout is close enough to the pivoting piece.

4) The open end of the pivoting piece needs to be close to the end of the spout (where the water comes out), but not contact it. Depending on the levelness (or lack thereof) of your site you may need to either excavate slightly, or build up, the spot where the rear of the pivoting piece contacts the ground to achieve this.

5) Place the pump in the bottom of the reservoir and cut the piece of tubing coming out of the bottom of the fountain to the appropriate length. Obviously, you can bury it or cover it with rocks to hide it. Connect the tubing to the pump. These pumps have a grate to keep out debris, but you may want to fashion a filter around the pump out of wire mesh or cheesecloth to lessen maintenance.

6) I am not an electrician and cannot advise concerning wiring other than to say make sure you use a GFCI. Otherwise- plug it in.

                          Operating Tips

1) About the pump: This is the smallest pump available that is strong enough to lift the water to the neccessary height; but even on its lowest setting the water flow volume may be too great. The small white gizmo on the tubing is a flow restrictor; use it to fine tune the intervals between the filling/emptying cycle of your fountain.
2) The loudest "thump" is achieved by allowing the bottom end to strike a rock. Best for scaring deer and irritating your neighbors perhaps, but the potential exists for the fountain to batter itself to the point of shortening its lifespan. I recommend a piece of rotten wood instead; or just let it hit the ground, if you don't need or want the noise.
3) If you run the fountain "fast", i.e. short intervals between filling/emptying, splashing may occur resulting in your reservoir losing water. Slow it down a little.
